Job Summary
Senior Metallurgical Engineer role within the MTI group providing technical support to ensure safe, environmentally sound operations with optimal asset reliability across global mills. Responsibilities include root cause failure analyses to prevent recurring equipment failures, corrosion/materials evaluations, enforcing metallurgical standards, providing on-site assistance during outages and audits, and transferring best practices between mills. Key standards and guidelines involve ASME, NBIC, API, AWS, and BLRBAC; travel is required to support mills, outages, and audits. Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration with reliability teams are essential, along with hands-on materials engineering support in power/recovery boiler audits and non-fired pressure vessel inspections. Must possess excellent communication skills, safety focus, and adaptability to dynamic operating environments, with willingness to work on-call and travel up to ~70%.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science (required)
- 10+ years of relevant experience in the Pulp and Paper industry or related industrial environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to travel up to ~70% to support mill sites, outages, and audits
- On-site and field-based work; willingness to undergo drug screening after conditional offer
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with ASME Code Books, NBIC, API Codes, AWS Standards, BLRBAC guidance
