Job Summary
Preventive Maintenance Mechanical role supporting Cedar Rapids Community Schools. Responsible for performing preventive maintenance on physical plant equipment including HVAC systems, lighting, and plumbing components; provide support to Operations in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fabrication, and general operational tasks; operate and maintain related tools, equipment, and vehicles; maintain regular attendance; collaborate with a team and communicate clearly in both oral and written forms. Requires knowledge of MEP systems in school buildings, ability to read blueprints and specifications, adherence to safety precautions, and physical capability to perform manual labor (lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, ladders, and working in variable shifts). Shifts vary from 7:00am–3:30pm to 11:00am–7:30pm and may extend; position is based in Cedar Rapids, IA with a valid Iowa driver’s license. Required Qualifications
- Valid Iowa State Driver's license
- Ability to read sketches, blueprints, and specification manuals
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade
- Clear and concise oral and written communication
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks (lifting, bending, climbing, ladders/scaffolding)
- Must be willing to work under adverse weather conditions
- Experience with Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) systems in school buildings
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- Experience with tools, equipment, and vehicles used in building maintenance
