Job Summary
Preventionists coordinate and assist with the implementation of prevention strategies within local schools and communities, engage key stakeholders to address environmental factors contributing to youth substance use, and deliver substance use prevention presentations at schools, community, and faith-based organizations. The role involves training coalition members on evidence-based prevention models, disseminating information at health fairs and public events, applying Recovery Oriented System of Care and Trauma-Informed Services concepts, and adapting hours to community needs (including evenings and weekends). The position requires strong public speaking and group facilitation, knowledge of national/local prevention statistics, and the ability to work both independently and in a team; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred and CPC-R or CPS certification (or eligibility for a development plan) is required upon hire.
Required Qualifications
- High School/GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school counseling, counseling psychology, education, public health, human services, or criminal justice is preferred
- Must be certified as a Prevention Consultant or Prevention Specialist (CPC-R or CPS) or be eligible for a registered development plan and be timely in its implementation upon hire
- Possess a valid motor vehicle operator license
