Job Summary
Implement and oversee the Alternative Supports Program and Izaak Walton Youth Center teen activities, including weekly drop-in nights and monthly programming with local park districts. Collaborate with the Prevention Specialist to develop outreach programs utilizing positive youth development and restorative practices. Manage volunteer programs for the department and work with school providers and community groups to meet program goals. Assist students at risk by developing positive alternatives while maintaining professional relationships with elected officials, staff, parents, and vendors. Transport student participants in a large vehicle and undergo bus training as needed. Requires a valid Illinois Driver's License, willingness to work evenings and weekends, and certification in Safety and Food Handling within 90 days.
Required Qualifications
- Capacity to identify and manage multiple projects, programs, and services in an efficient and effective manner
- Patience in working with youth that may have behavioral and learning limitations
- Familiarity with Social Work best practices and theories
- Knowledge of positive youth development and restorative practices in conflict resolution
- Ability to clearly convey instructions to employees or team
- Capable of speaking clearly and effectively before groups of people and answering questions appropriately
- Ability to read and interpret all types of documents including safety rules and regulations, and procedure manuals
- Ability to create and edit reports and correspondence from varied source material using appropriate style and format
- Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with elected officials, staff, students, parents, school administrators and vendors
- Ability to interface effectively with diverse populations, including ethnicity, education, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and adapt to different environments
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Human Services or related field
- One year of experience in program planning or volunteer management
- Experience in developing leadership skills, peer mentorship, and grants administration
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with utilizing an electronic records system
- Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications including, but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Willingness to work regular evenings and occasional weekends as requested
- Required to transport student participants in a large vehicle and undergo bus training as needed
- Possess a valid Illinois Driver's License
- Must become certified in Safety and Food Handling within 90 days of hire
