Job Summary

Clarify the organization's next-chapter vision with the board and staff, translating strategic plans into measurable outcomes and disciplined decisions on scaling or stopping initiatives. Serve as the lead ambassador to donors, civic leaders, and public officials, cultivating major gifts, corporate partnerships, and planned giving while advocating for public policies addressing food insecurity. Deepen strategic partnerships with healthcare systems, education agencies, and 350 partner organizations to move from transactional exchanges to transformational regional outcomes. Ensure strong fiscal stewardship, operational systems, and risk management for a multi-site enterprise, partnering with the executive team on food sourcing, distribution, and federal funding streams. Build trust through transparent communication and empower the executive team to clarify decision rights and accountability across departments.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to hunger relief, rural communities, poverty alleviation, public health, or a related human services mission
  • Ability to understand Appalachian and Southwest Virginia identity and the lived realities of the neighbors we serve
  • Senior executive leadership experience in a nonprofit, food bank, health or human services organization, community development organization, public-sector entity, or similarly complex, mission-driven enterprise
  • Successful fundraising and resource development experience
  • Experience innovating new revenue streams
  • Experience maintaining ongoing relationships with major donors, institutional funders, corporate partners, public funding, planned giving, and Board fundraising
  • Track record of effective advocacy for an organization
  • Experience securing awareness and support at the community, state and/or federal tiers of government
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills
  • Ability to build trust with staff, donors, partner agencies, volunteers, public officials, and community leaders
  • Strong financial and operational acumen
