Job Summary
Support prescribed and wildland fire operations across the United States by conducting prescribed burns, preparing fire lines, maintaining equipment, monitoring post-burn effects, and performing vegetation management tasks. Operate ATVs, UTVs, tractors, chainsaws, and leaf blowers; tow trailers; maintain equipment; gain proficiency with mobile mapping and data collection tools (Collector for ArcGIS, Avenza Maps). Perform heavy physical work in remote locations and varying weather, maintain accurate work time and expense records, follow safety and conduct standards, and coordinate with local TNC and U.S. Forest Service staff and partner agencies. Requires ability to obtain RXCM/FFT2 qualifications and maintain required certifications; heavy field responsibilities with travel 8 weeks across a six-month term; part-time seasonal employment with travel expenses and lodging covered; other duties as assigned to support a diverse, collaborative fire-management program.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to obtain Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2) qualifications, including ICS I-100, L-180, S-190, S-130, and training burn under FFT2 supervision
- Must achieve physical fitness standards as determined by the local Prescribed Fire Manager
- Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required (e.g., First Aid, CPR)
- Experience operating various types of equipment
- Six months to one year of related experience (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
