Job Summary
Assist classroom staff with daily activities, lesson plans, field trips, and outdoor programs while helping supervise mealtime and encourage nutrition. Develop culturally relevant materials, maintain a clean and orderly classroom and kitchen, and support special needs children by following IEP/IFSP plans. Perform food service tasks including preparation, cleanup, and USDA/CACFP documentation, plus provide temporary substitute coverage and janitorial support as needed. Work Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, completing required child care training, first aid/CPR certification, and background screening within specified timelines.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Successful completion of the 45 hours of Florida Child Care Facility Training within 12 months of the date of hire
- Certification in First Aid and CPR within 90 days from the date of hire
- Successful completion of a Level II background screening
- Local criminal record check
- Health screening
- TB screening
- Drug screening
- Ability to communicate both written and verbally
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to communicate with families and children in a positive and helpful manner
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
- Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs
- Must be able to lift at least 45 pounds
- Must be available for Monday - Friday from 7:30 am - 5:30 pm
- Must attend all required staff and parent meetings and activities
- Must attend all workshops and training as directed
Desired Qualifications
- Current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents
- Bilingual: English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area
