Job Summary
Assist classroom teachers in providing a safe, nurturing educational environment for preschool-aged students through instruction, classroom management, and behavior support. Prepare instructional materials, supervise students during recess, bus times, and lunch, and address basic health concerns while using positive behavior strategies. Work with the preschool team to enhance student learning and promote the overall efficiency of the school system under the supervision of the building administrator and classroom teacher. Maintain confidentiality of student records and conform to expectations within the negotiated agreement for Paraeducators. Work 175 contract days in the Iowa City Community School District.
Required Qualifications
- AA, BA degree or Para certification
- Certification in CPR and First Aid for infant, child, and adult
- Initiative to be a self-starter
- Ability to work well with classroom teachers, support staff, administrators, AEA, and parents of students as part of an educational team
- Ability to be flexible in assignments
- Ability to use good judgment when unexpected problems arise
- Ability to use office equipment
- May require physical activity including standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 40 lbs), sitting on the floor, and swift movements
