Job Summary
Support and uphold the mission of Lexington County School District One by providing physical, emotional, and academic support to students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). Assist certified teachers with primary academic instruction, prepare classroom materials, and facilitate daily living routines including personal hygiene, toileting, and self-feeding. Monitor student safety, maintain confidentiality of all records, and ensure proper functioning of assistive technology and equipment. Collect and manage data for Individualized Education Program goals while performing errands such as transporting students between schools and activities. Work under close supervision in a classroom setting with occasional travel between schools, requiring reliable transportation and ability to work irregular hours.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education
- An associate's degree (or higher)
- A passing score on the ParaPro or ParaPathways Assessment
- Must have current government issued identification
- Must be able to access reliable transportation
- Personal computer experience required
- Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
- Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory
- Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines
- Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group
- Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines
- Computer literacy required
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push/pull items such as furniture or boxes of materials
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen and/or reach with hands and arms
- Close vision
- Distance vision
- Ability to work irregular or extended hours
