Job Summary

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student in your classroom. Lead two half-day sessions per day for up to 8 students per session. Serve on collaborative, diverse teams of educators and administrators to meet district goals. Teach preschool students with diverse backgrounds, including those with special needs and English Language Learners, utilizing technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Foster family partnerships, engage in parent involvement, and participate in professional development aligned with district goals. This contracted Preschool Intervention Specialist role is based in Columbus, Ohio, with a 183-day year and 7.25-hour days, requiring Ohio licensure and Reading Endorsement/Praxis 5203.

Required Qualifications

  • current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education with certification to teach Preschool students in a Specialist Learning Classroom (SLC) unit
  • Be in possession of or in the process of applying for The Reading Endorsement or have passed Praxis 5203 (Teaching Reading: Elementary Education)
  • Be flexible in your work schedule and be willing to attend/participate in professional development sessions
  • Be willing to serve on teams that require constant collaboration
  • Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds
  • Have the ability to teach students with special needs and English Language Learners
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, and provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student in your classroom
  • Manage an organized and professional classroom that is conducive to learning and the development of the whole child
  • Foster a cooperative and respectful partnership with families and encourage parent involvement through classroom observations and volunteer opportunities
  • Actively engage with at-risk students in the learning process; planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of ALL students including those with special needs and English Language Learners
  • Recognize the needs of individual students and the entire group and offer support and flexibility as needed
  • Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the goals of our District
  • Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
  • Lead two half day session per day for up to 8 students per session
  • Support and remain patient with preschool students as they learn social-emotional skills
  • Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with district and building goals, assigned subject content and the varied needs of students
