Job Summary
Infant Toddler Specialist in the Early Head Start program plans and implements daily educational activities for infants and toddlers, develops individual education plans aligned with federal performance standards, creates distinctive learning environments, screens and assesses developmental needs, maintains documentation and portfolios, coordinates health checks and safety, conducts parent conferences and home visits, collaborates with Head Start staff and volunteers, and ensures at least 80% of children are ready for preschool. The role requires strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices, classroom management, data collection and reporting, effective communication, CPR/First Aid certification, and the ability to work with families and diverse populations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- National Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) for Preschool or Infant/Toddler Endorsement or Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) birth to five years old or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) or an associate or bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education with focus on infant and toddler development or related field with focus on infant/toddler development
- Two years of experience working with Head Start/Early Head Start/pre-school/kindergarten children
- Completion of Florida 45-hour Child Care Facility Training
- Completion of a 10-hour Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Infants/Toddlers course within 12 months of hire
- Safe Sleep/Shaken Baby Syndrome training within 30 days of hire
- Certification in First Aid and CPR within 90 days of hire
- Background checks required (Level II background screening, local criminal record check, health, TB and drug screening)
- Ability to lift at least 45 lbs and provide physical assistance as needed
- Bilingual ability preferred English/Spanish or other languages present in local area
