Job Summary
Assist students with basic classroom work, including computers, language arts, math, and research. Support the teacher with preparing instructional materials, grading, attendance, and implementing specialized therapy programs defined in student IEPs. Monitor and enforce acceptable behavior, implement health care plans, and provide toileting assistance. Supervise students during playground, lunch, recess, field trips, and passing periods, maintaining close proximity to prevent eloping. Cover classrooms for short periods when teachers are unavailable and assist injured or sick students to the health room.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Oral and written communication skills and English language skills

- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations
- Ability to promote and follow building and departmental policies
- Apply and follow all school district policies and state of Iowa laws
- Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and online resources
- Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
- Must be physically able to run with student to keep them in close proximity
- Trained in CPI and understands the rules and regulations pertaining to management of behaviors and protocol safeguards
