Job Summary
Support the classroom teacher with all children's activities throughout the day, including supervision during busing and transitions. Assist with physical care, meal preparation, and classroom setup while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to agency policies. Manage behavioral needs and share relevant child information with the teacher. Attend meetings and workshops to enhance skills, and demonstrate a nurturing manner while implementing the agency's philosophy of independence and individual potential.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or its equivalent, or 1 year of experience working with children
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be available for evening work
- Must be available for the school year including the 6 week summer program
- Must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds
- Must be able to talk
- Must be able to hear
- Must be able to sit
- Must be able to stand
- Must be able to walk
- Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to supervise children at all times
- Must be able to assist children with behavioral/management needs
- Must be able to assist in physical care tasks and health related activities
- Must be able to assist with classroom preparation/set-up and the management of classroom materials and equipment
- Must be able to assist in the preparation of children's meals and snacks
- Must be able to assist with classroom cleanup
- Must be able to share all relevant information related to classroom children obtained from various sources with the classroom teacher
- Must be able to participate in conferences, workshops, Department meetings and in-service training
- Must be able to adhere to agency's policies and procedures as well as department guidelines
- Must be able to demonstrate consistent, nurturing manner toward all children
- Must be able to impart agency philosophy of Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential to children, families, program staff and community resources
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy
- Must be able to perform non-instructional duties under the supervision of the classroom teacher
- Must be able to assist the classroom teacher in all children's activities throughout the day
- Must be able to attend appropriate meetings as determined by the classroom teacher and Program Director
- Must be able to function as a positive, contributing member of the classroom team
- Must be able to work at any of our partner agencies
- Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected
