Job Summary
Patient Care Technician Assistant - PeriOp at MercyOne Des Moines provides direct patient care and supports the clinical staff. Responsibilities include transporting patients, assisting with personal hygiene, ambulation, and elimination needs; performing or assisting with urine tests and urine collection; phlebotomy; 12-lead EKGs; spatially preparing for procedures; room preparation for anticipated admissions; and communicating changes in a patient’s condition to the RN. The role involves documenting in the computer, maintaining supplies, and delivering compassionate, patient-centered care across neonatal to geriatric populations. Education requirement: high school diploma or GED; Basic Life Support within six weeks; mandatory abuse training within three months; English proficiency. Equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six (6) weeks of hire
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three (3) months of hire
- English language proficiency (read, write, and speak)
- Previous experience in medical setting preferred
- Ability to read, write and speak English language
- Phlebotomy following prescribed policy
- 12-lead EKG or rhythm strip
- Ability to transport patients safely
- Ability to assist with personal hygiene and ambulation
