Job Summary
The Prep Cook ensures efficient kitchen operations by controlling food usage to minimize waste, preparing and cooking orders timely, maintaining cleanliness standards, and restocking items as needed. Responsibilities include advising supervisors on inventory, performing ware washing, promoting teamwork, and adhering to health guidelines. Candidates should possess one year of experience in a fast-paced kitchen, demonstrate basic cooking knowledge, and exhibit strong communication and math skills.
Required Qualifications
- At least one year experience of cooking on a fast paced kitchen line and food preparation experience.
- Must be able to demonstrate the basic knowledge of cooking, following recipes, portion control, and presentation.
- Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with the other cooks, wait staff and supervisors.
- Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when preparing meals from a recipe, when assisting in the scheduling of the kitchen staff, or when monitoring inventory.
- Mathematical skills, including basic math, percentages, quantities, and variances are used frequently.
Desired Qualifications
- Culinary certified training preferred.
- Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency.
Additional Requirements
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
