Job Summary
Prepare ingredients for service by washing, chopping, measuring, and portioning while supporting banquet, pastry, and line prep operations. Wash, chop, measure, and portion ingredients; assist with bulk banquet preparation; scale ingredients and assemble pastry components. Set up and stock prep stations, rotate stock with proper labeling, and follow recipes and prep lists with accuracy. Maintain sanitation standards, apply basic cooking techniques, and communicate effectively with kitchen staff.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rates, ratio, and percent
- Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to read and speak English
- Ability to comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees, guests and supervisors
- Ability to convey information and ideas clearly
- Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately
- Ability to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations
- Proper lifting techniques
- Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force constantly
- Reaching above shoulder heights
- Reaching below the waist
- Lifting as required to file documents or store materials
- Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed for an extended period of time
Desired Qualifications
- High School diploma and/or experience in a hotel or a related field
- 1–2 years of kitchen experience, including banquet, pastry, or line prep
- Culinary training
- ServSafe and Food Handler Certifications
