Job Summary
Prepare ingredients for service by washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, dicing, and julienning vegetables and fruits while utilizing basic to intermediate knife skills. Execute foundational cooking methods including sautéing, grilling, frying, braising, blanching, emulsifying, poaching, and steaming as directed. Follow standardized recipes to ensure consistent flavor and presentation, measure and scale ingredients accurately, and perform essential baking and pastry tasks. Assist line cooks during service by preparing mise en place and replenishing low-stock items, while organizing, labeling, and storing prepared items in compliance with HACCP and FIFO standards. Maintain cleanliness of prep areas, coolers, and workstations, sanitize equipment regularly, and adhere strictly to OSHA and food safety guidelines. Communicate product shortages or safety concerns to supervisors promptly.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum one year of kitchen experience in a high-volume, upscale kitchen with professional culinary environment
- Strong understanding of kitchen equipment and food safety practices
- Strong knife skills and familiarity with kitchen tools
- Must speak, read, and write English fluently to follow recipes, safety instructions, and communicate with team members
- Excellent communication skills and ability to follow detailed instructions
- Positive attitude, reliability, and a team-oriented mindset
- Must be reliable and punctual
- Ability to speak, hear, and follow verbal directions in a high-noise environment
- Ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Fine motor skills required for knife work and plating precision
- Flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business demands
- Food Handler's license
