Job Summary

Provide preschool children with a joyful, nurturing, safe environment while assisting qualified teaching staff in the Head Start classroom. Develop activities, lesson plans, and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to support social, intellectual, and emotional development. Conduct daily observations, maintain records, and facilitate two home visits and three parent conferences annually. Offer classroom coverage during teacher absences and report on daily implementation to the Lead Teacher. Participate in team meetings, coaching sessions, and staff development activities. Maintain strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding child safety and confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active Preschool Child Development Associate Credential
  • ECE Certificate or EEC Preschool Lead Teacher certified
  • Enrolled in a degree program leading to an Associates or Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field
  • Enrolled in a CDA program to be completed within two years with experience teaching preschool age children
  • Associate's degree in early childhood education
  • Associate's degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool age children
  • EEC Preschool Teacher certified
  • Bilingual in a language spoken by families served by ABCD
  • Capability to lift and move pre-school aged children
  • Capability to control a child's movement to protect safety or effect disciplinary goals
  • Capability to respond to children in the case of an emergency
  • Capability to implement tasks relating to the physical educational goals of children enrolled
  • Capability to lift and move equipment and furniture in the execution of classroom activities
  • Capability to attend to the need of children with disabilities, including physically-challenged children
  • Capability to carry out duties or responsibilities contained in the job description or otherwise assigned or as required by federal law
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a teaching team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and sensitivity to the education and socioeconomic needs of the children and families served in Head Start/Early Head Start
  • Maintain confidentiality of child and family information at all times
  • Maintain professional boundaries in relationships with staff and families
  • Engage in ongoing staff development to expand professional skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish
  • EEC preschool teacher certified
  • Bilingual in a language spoken by families served by ABCD
  • Experience teaching preschool age children
