Job Summary
Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction. Help teacher prepare instructional materials, maintain a neat classroom, and manage student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations. Support students with disabilities by assisting with physical needs and developing motor skills through assigned exercises. Help maintain inventory, care for equipment, and keep administrative records and reports. Provide orientation to substitute teachers and supervise students throughout the day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development training as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
- Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester hours of college coursework); or have obtained, at minimum, an associate's degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment knowledge or, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and math or knowledge or, and the ability to assist in instructing reading and writing readiness, and math readiness, as appropriate
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Some experience working with children
