Job Summary
Internship with the International Rescue Committee's Preferred Communities Program provides case management support to refugee groups in the U.S., assisting with access to benefits and services through client-facing activities and administrative duties. Interns are assigned to a PC Case Manager to support their caseload (e.g., attending medical appointments, guiding public transportation) and will develop caseload management skills and client-facing abilities. The role emphasizes learning about refugee resettlement, social services, and working in a multicultural team, with learning objectives focused on problem-solving, communication, and professional conduct within an INGO environment. The position is based in the United States and is unpaid, part-time, with responsibilities including referrals for additional services, file maintenance, and collaboration with program staff under IRC standards and policies.
Required Qualifications
- Based in the United States and enrolled in a post-secondary institution or graduated within the last 2 years
- Interns must be based in the US
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
- Demonstrated effective communication skills in a collaborative team setting
- Competency in Microsoft Office and file management
- Interest in learning about refugee resettlement and refugee social services
- Willingness to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies
- Ability to support clients with accessing needed benefits and services during internship
- Ability to participate in client-facing activities and administrative duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications
- Fluency in additional languages beyond those listed as preferred
- Experience volunteering or interning in social services
- Familiarity with refugee resettlement processes
