Job Summary
Preconstruction Piping Estimator at Wharton-Smith, Inc. located in Sanford, FL. Responsibilities include reading drawings, specifications and reports; performing quantity take-offs for Pipe & Appurtenances; calculating labor and equipment costs for self-performed work; identifying risks such as utility conflicts, dewatering, excavation protection; soliciting Subcontractor/Supplier participation via phone or email; developing and maintaining relationships with vendors/subcontractors; performing scope analysis and identifying deficiencies; managing projects ranging from 4M to 400M with hard deadlines; attending Pre-Bid Meetings; writing RFIs with clarifications and assumptions. Requires 3-4 years of underground mechanical estimating experience, familiarity with municipal utility hard bids, strong communication and organizational skills, and proficiency in MS Office and take-off programs (Planswift/OST) plus the ability to learn internal estimating software; valid driver license and ability to commute to job sites.
Required Qualifications
- 3-4 years of underground mechanical estimating or similar field experience
- Previous experience with hard bid Municipal utility projects is a plus
- Ability to understand construction terminology
- Strong communication, teamwork and organizational skills are required
- Computer proficiency in MS Office, Planswift/OST take-off programs and ability to learn internal estimating software are required
- Valid Driver License and ability to commute to job sites
