Job Summary
Assist Licensed Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians with physical exams, low-stress animal handling, and patient restraint. Prepare exam rooms and clinical spaces for procedures while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment. Support patient care by administering oral medications, transporting animals, and organizing laboratory samples for diagnostic testing. Complete basic tasks in the electronic medical record system, including placing diagnostic requests, documenting activities, and ordering clinical supplies. Assist with patient admissions and discharges to provide a positive experience for clients. This onsite position in Ithaca, NY, requires working 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Employees must receive pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- six months of basic animal handling experience
- Accepted and enrolled in an AVMA accredited associate's degree in veterinary technology distant learning program
- Must successfully obtain Veterinary Technology degree within three years of employment with consistent enrollment
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment while managing multiple priorities with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated willingness to learn, follow direction from Licensed Veterinary Technicians, ask clarifying questions, and apply constructive feedback
- Basic knowledge of veterinary terminology, patient behavior, common diseases, vaccinations, and laboratory procedures
- Ability to learn and use veterinary software, including CUHA's electronic medical record system (ezyVet)
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including prolonged standing, kneeling, lifting, and safely restraining animals weighing more than 50 pounds
- Must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire
- Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks
