Job Summary
Support identified students as indicated on the IEP by working with small groups or individuals under the direction of special education or classroom teachers in all subject areas. Assist students in regular and special education to successfully participate in classroom activities, including activities of daily living, while providing reinforcement and practice of skills recommended by the IEP team. Collects data relevant to the IEP, implements student behavior plans, and promotes an appropriate amount of independence. Consults regularly with teachers regarding the IEP and its relationship to curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Adheres to all assigned schedules, including duty and student schedules, and accepts changes in assignments flexibly. Supervises an entire classroom on occasion and upholds discipline policies to provide a consistent learning environment. Participates in school-wide staff meetings, informal meetings with building administration, and meetings with IEP team members as requested.
Required Qualifications
- basic understanding of children's emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs
- willingness to openly take direction and guidance
- ability to communicate with staff, students, and community members
- high school degree, the equivalent thereof, or a higher degree
- adequate knowledge of relevant skills or the potential to be appropriately trained for such skills
