Job Summary
Assess student strengths and develop employment goals through direct instruction in communication, life skills, and job development. Teach employability skills including resume writing, interview preparation, and self-advocacy while monitoring daily attendance and progress in both classroom and work experience settings. Assist students in building portfolios, accessing public transportation, and navigating work site supervision for individuals with disabilities. Maintain accurate files and communicate monthly with consultants. Work onsite daily following the school calendar (180-185 days), with potential summer opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- In-person onsite presence on a daily basis
- Ability to work 180-185 days
- Availability for potential summer and school vacation opportunities
- Assessment of student learning strengths, areas of development, and interests
- Development of goals and outcomes based on student input and assessment results
- Instruction in employability skills including communication, technology, problem solving/critical thinking, teamwork, personal appearance, financial management, professionalism, self-determination, self-advocacy, resume writing, interview skills, and job search
- Assistance in developing student portfolios including certificates of skills attained and letters of recommendation
- Utilization of teaching methods, materials, curriculum fidelity, and adaptations appropriate to meet individual student needs
- Assessment of student progress in the classroom and at the work experience site
- Monitoring and recording of daily attendance in class and at the work experience site
- Teaching students to inform instructors or supervisors at work experience sites of absences/tardiness
- Training on public transportation and teaching students to access public or private transportation
- Monthly written communication with consultants and other parties as identified
- Conducting meetings as needed
- Providing employers at work experience sites with information about disability awareness and strategies on how to supervise individuals with disabilities
- Maintenance of accurate and complete files for each student
