Job Summary
Lead Pre-Award Grant Management within the School of Medicine to drive high-quality pre-award services across a large portfolio. Responsibilities include serving as the subject matter expert for pre-award grants and contracts administration, developing complex budgets and administrative components, ensuring sponsor and university compliance, acting as a primary liaison among principal investigators, departments, central offices, subrecipients, and sponsors, and supporting just-in-time and award-stage documentation. As Team Lead, provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, onboarding, and training for Grant Managers and Grant Specialists; establish quality standards, SOPs, and training materials to ensure compliant, customer-focused service delivery; build strong relationships with investigators and departmental partners; and escalate concerns to maintain a high-trust service culture. Conduct quality assurance reviews of proposals, analyze trends, and recommend workflow/tool improvements. Lead administrative/lean process improvement efforts, participate in policy development, and support performance metrics. Preferred qualifications include 5+ years of experience, collaboration with UW central offices and sponsor staff, experience with UW systems, and Lean Six Sigma project management. Minimum qualifications emphasize strong communication with investigators and administrative partners, project management experience, and robust knowledge of sponsor guidelines and compliance. Overall, the role combines people leadership, strategic proposal support, and deep compliance expertise to advance the university’s research mission and help faculty compete for funding.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, or a related field
- Four or more years of research administration experience with substantial responsibility for proposal development, including complex budgets and subawards
