Job Summary
Conduct verbal assessments with patients prior to admission via telephone or in person, collecting medical history from previous records. Coordinate patient needs with the anesthesia department and perform patient teaching/education as established by the department. Assess pertinent information, plan, implement, and document interventions while maintaining patient safety by evaluating physical and psychological needs. Respond to telephone inquiries, provide general health information, and refer callers to appropriate medical, ambulatory, and community resources. Communicate arrival time and NPO instructions to patients and alert anesthesia of lab results or special needs prior to surgery. Thoroughly document all call encounters using manual and/or online systems, ensuring accurate and timely charting.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in OR, PACU or ICU setting
- Current VA RN License
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
Desired Qualifications
- 1-2 years Ambulatory Surgery Center experience preferred
