Job Summary

Carer Practitioner to recruit, assess, develop and support the foster and kinship carer workforce. Responsibilities include carer assessments, accreditation and ongoing reviews, delivering pre-accreditation training, supporting induction and development of carers, ensuring practice compliance with legislative/funding requirements, maintaining documentation, contributing to quality assurance, supporting carer recruitment/engagement/retention through training and community activities, and participating in after-hours on-call roster. Flexible working arrangements are available; 0.8 FTE (part-time) with ongoing in-house training and professional development. Must have tertiary qualifications in relevant fields, experience in foster/kinship/out-of-home care, trauma-informed practice, strong communication and reporting skills, and the ability to build relationships with carers, families, colleagues and stakeholders. Police Check, Working with Children Check and a valid driver’s licence are required.

Required Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Community Welfare, Social Sciences or related discipline
  • Experience in foster care, kinship care, out-of-home care, child protection or related family services
  • Strong understanding of trauma, attachment, child development and the out-of-home care sector
  • Demonstrated experience conducting complex assessments, interviews and sensitive conversations
  • Excellent report writing, analytical and evidence-based assessment skills
  • Experience delivering education, training or group facilitation
  • Ability to build strong relationships with carers, families, colleagues and stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and presentation platforms
  • A strong commitment to workplace health, safety, resilience and reflective practice
  • Step by Step accreditation/certification will be highly regarded
  • Police Check and Working with Children Check satisfactory and valid driver’s licence
