Practice Lead, Geotechnical Engineering

Job Summary
Lead the development of WATT's geotechnical practice by integrating services into civil, transportation, and municipal projects while building client relationships and supporting business development. Provide senior technical oversight for investigations, design, and construction monitoring, reviewing reports and setting quality assurance standards. Manage projects end-to-end, including scope, schedule, budget, and financial performance, while recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineering staff. Establish technical standards for foundations, excavations, slopes, and drainage, ensuring multidisciplinary teams receive early geotechnical input. Accountable for practice growth, staffing strategy, and financial targets within an established consulting firm in Western Canada.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Engineer registered with APEGA, or eligible for registration in Alberta
- 10+ years of progressive geotechnical consulting experience
- Broad technical experience across investigations, foundations, slopes, retaining structures, excavation support, pavements, groundwater, and infrastructure
- Demonstrated experience leading geotechnical work within multidisciplinary teams, including client development and proposal work
- Experience managing teams, projects, budgets, schedules, and quality assurance
Desired Qualifications
- Strong understanding of Alberta and Western Canadian geotechnical conditions and consulting markets
