Job Summary
Sweep, mop, and scrub floors and surfaces; clean cafeterias, restrooms, sinks, and water fountains; vacuum carpets and operate floor machines for stripping, waxing, and polishing. Dust furniture, chalkboards, blinds, and light fixtures; clean glass, chrome fixtures, and doors. Replace lamps and ceiling tiles; remove snow and ice from sidewalks. Set up for assemblies and meetings; work at heights using ladders or lifts. Collect trash and recycling; assist in grounds maintenance and security by securing doors and turning off evening lighting. Assist visitors, direct law enforcement, and attend safety meetings. Maintain regular attendance, concentrate under stress, and interact positively with others while performing repetitive manual labor involving lifting up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, possession of a general education development (GED) program certificate, or Maryland high school certificate of attendance
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
- Ability to operate custodial equipment
- Must know the proper use of mops, brooms, floor machines, and related equipment
- Must possess good human relations and communications skills
- Ability to read and write
- Must be able to lift and move heavy objects and perform manual labor
- Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
- Must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation
- Must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person
- Must successfully complete a drug screen
- Must report all former employment where direct contact with minors may have occurred
- Must submit contact information of current employer, all former school employers, and all former employers not school related
- Must submit contact information for organizations where the applicant has volunteered, coached, mentored, tutored or otherwise had direct contact with minors
