Powertrain Development Engineering Internship - Fall 2026

Job Summary

Coordinate customer-based automotive engineering and testing projects by assisting with dynamometer and emissions testing, machine shop, engine build, and fabrication services. Perform engine dynamometer and vehicle-based emissions testing, including engine setup, data acquisition, reporting, teardown analysis, and ECU data review. Diagnose hardware and control issues, manage test inventory, and prepare technical reports for program reviews. Apply continuous improvement strategies to enhance quality and throughput while supporting component and system design activities.

Required Qualifications

  • currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or automotive engineering
  • available for the fall semester of 2026 and be able to work a 40-hour work week M-F
  • Strong MS Excel experience
  • minimum sophomore standing
  • valid driver's license
  • Willingness to travel and/or work overtime upon request
  • strong desire to learn and execute base engine/vehicle testing and systems integration
  • hands-on automotive background with a desire to work with engines and controls
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team environment with customers, engineers, designers, lab technicians, mechanics, machinists and engine builders
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • self-motivated
  • rapid problem-solving skills
  • ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience with engine dynamometer testing
  • Experience with CAN bus (or similar) protocol and communication
  • Formula SAE/Baja or other automotive competition experience
