Powerline Technician - Journeyperson

Job Summary

Construct and maintain transmission and distribution lines ranging from 5kv to 138 kv, including the installation of transformers, poles, conductors, and street lights. Troubleshoot and repair line systems throughout the Northwest Territories while performing routine customer service meter reading and installing or removing single and polyphase meters. Select proper size transformers, conductors, and fuses for system upgrades and repairs, and maintain substations using specialized test procedures for power transformers, breakers, and high voltage cables. Read blueprints and interpret technical drawings for various electrical equipment. This role supports NTPC's service areas in Fort Smith, Dehcho, Sahtu, North Slave, and Beaufort Delta regions, requiring a Journeyperson Power Lineperson certification and willingness to travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification as a Journeyperson Power Lineperson
  • An Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Power Lineperson Certification
  • A minimum of five years of directly related experience in the installation and maintenance of power distribution line systems
  • Equivalencies
  • A Class 3 driver's license with air brake endorsement
  • Knowledge & the ability to assist in the use of specialized equipment and be familiar with test procedures on power transformers, breakers, metering tanks, high voltage cables and switches, voltage regulators
  • Ability to read and work off blueprints
  • Ability to interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications of a variety of types of electrical equipment, including manufacturer's manuals and parts books
  • Team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good planning, organizational and communications skills
  • Must be willing & able to travel throughout the regions
  • Must provide a satisfactory criminal record check
