Job Summary
Power System Engineer NERC Standards responsible for engineering analysis and technical support for interconnection of new generation resources, ensuring compliance with NERC Standards, Protocols, Planning Guides, and Market Guides. Performs system modeling, develops tools and procedures for system studies, analyzes simulated or actual operating results, and reports findings and recommendations. Conducts powerflow studies to assess feasibility of proposed interconnections, reviews interconnection applications for compliance, identifies process improvements, and communicates requirements and results to internal/external stakeholders. Tracks project milestones from study request through commercial operation, aligned with interconnection queue procedures. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and relevant experience (entry to level 2). Skills include PSSE power system studies, Python/VBA/SQL/Access/Oracle, ability to write technical reports, and strong communication. Role is remote (work from home) with location in Taylor, Texas.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
- For entry level - Less than one year experience in electric utility industry beyond degree requirements
- For level 2 – 2 years of progressively responsible experience in electric utility industry
- Experience running power system load flow studies in PSSE
- Experience running transfer analysis systems studies
- Ability to clearly communicate requirements and other technical information
- Ability to write technical reports of in-depth analysis completed
- Experience with Python, VBA, or another programming language
- Experience creating queries in Access, Oracle, or SQL
- Experience using TARA
