Job Summary

Power Electronics Engineer needed to join the Sensing and Communications Department working on underwater maritime systems. The role involves design, development, integration, and debugging of complex power systems, including DC/DC and AC/DC converters (500 W–10 kW) for harsh environments, high-availability power supplies, and EMI-aware PCB layouts. Candidates should have hands-on experience designing custom PCBs for prototype R&D, with expertise in MOSFETs, SiC devices, IGBTs, magnetics, and interfacing with embedded processors. Responsibilities include designing and testing power systems, overseeing board layout and vendor relationships, and ensuring integration into larger systems. Desired experience includes underwater electronics, acoustic transducers, various power converter topologies (Buck, Boost, Flyback, SEPIC), LabVIEW/National Instruments data acquisition, RS232/RS422, I2C, I2S, SPI, and C/C++ for microcontrollers, plus mentoring junior staff and contributing to technical content for new products. The role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance and is based in Groton, CT (USA).

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with power system design consisting of circuit analysis and simulation, component selection, schematic capture, PCB design, and verification testing.
  • Design of DC/DC and AC/DC power systems ranging from 500 W to 10 kW for use in harsh operating environments.
  • Experience with implementation of high availability power supplies and/or failover systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electronic power devices such as MOSFETs, Schottky Diodes, SiC FETs, and IGBT’s.
  • Proven experience designing with electromechanical actuators, DC/DC converters, power amplifiers, and magnetics.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic systems.
  • BS in electrical engineering with a power systems focus.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
