Job Summary
Design, build, and maintain power supplies for the Fermilab accelerator complex, including LBNF, PIP-II, ACORN, and Mu2e projects. Create simulations in LTSpice, MATLAB, ETAP, and COMSOL to verify electrical system designs and draft mechanical and electrical drawings using AutoCAD and Altium. Provide technical direction to technicians and early career engineers while performing hands-on support for high-power system electronics, analog sampling, and component interlocks. Respond to call-ins to support operations and ensure accelerator reliability. Conduct vendor technical evaluations and write specifications for transformers and power supplies. Perform Lock Out Tag Out procedures to ensure safe equipment maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or a foreign equivalent
- 3 years of relevant experience in power electronics engineering
- 1 year of experience performing high-voltage measurements with hi-pot testers
- 1 year of experience calculating power supply requirements using LTSpice, hand calculations, MATLAB/Octave, ETAP and COMSOL
- 1 year of experience operating and maintaining AC-DC power supplies
- 1 year of experience developing simulations of magnet power systems
- Up to 5 weeks of domestic and/or international travel to witness test equipment and evaluate potential vendors
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screening
- HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential
- REAL-ID, or equivalent, to access the Fermilab Campus
