Power BI Lead

Job Summary
Power BI Lead who serves as the technical and architectural authority for BI reporting across MCP/LOS, owning the semantic data layer, data governance, and the development of advanced analytics. Responsible for designing and maintaining the Power BI semantic layer, data sourcing strategy from MCP/LOS and data warehouse, establishing data freshness conventions, managing gateway and refresh performance, enforcing naming conventions and measure libraries, controlling access with row-level security, versioning and deployment pipelines, documenting datasets and data lineage, building the most complex executive dashboards and KPI scorecards, writing advanced DAX for time intelligence and dynamic filtering, shaping data transformations with Power Query/M from multiple sources, reviewing analyst outputs, prioritizing BI requests, mentoring analysts, and partnering with IT/Engineering on data model changes. The role requires hands-on development, stakeholder credibility across operations and executive leadership, and a track record of delivering clear KPI storytelling for regulatory and business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced Power BI Desktop - complex data models, composite models, DirectQuery
- Advanced DAX - time intelligence, iterators, context transition, dynamic measures
- Power Query / M - multi-source transformation, parameterization, error handling
- SQL proficiency - query optimization, joins, aggregations against relational DBs
- Familiarity with data warehouse concepts - star schema, slowly changing dimensions
- Power BI Service administration - workspaces, deployment pipelines, RLS, gateway
- Version control fundamentals (Git or equivalent)
- Proven ability to define BI standards and enforce adoption across a team
- Experience designing executive-facing dashboards with clear KPI storytelling
- Mortgage/lending industry familiarity - pipeline metrics, pull-through, cycle time, regulatory reporting
- Ability to translate ambiguous business asks into structured analytical requirements
- Player/coach orientation - willing to stay hands-on while providing oversight
- Comfortable presenting to and defending design decisions with executive stakeholders
