Job Summary
This is a 12-month (0,8 FTE) postdoctoral position at Maastricht University focused on investigating invisible knowledge work in open science practices. The researcher will conduct mixed-methods research combining qualitative interviews and field observations to document the experiences, labour, and role of less visible staff in enabling Open Science, map formal and informal platforms representing them, and assess how invisible labour influences the scaling of open science practices and recognition systems. The project involves collaboration across multiple faculties and units (FHML, FPN, FASoS, UL) and requires engaging with both formal and informal professional networks (e.g., ARMA, INORMS) and institutional structures. The role emphasizes independent and collaborative work, strong organizational and communication skills, and a track record of high-quality research outputs in related fields. Proficiency in English is required, and a PhD in a closely related field is expected by appointment. A 12-month contract with 0,8 FTE is offered, along with a competitive gross monthly salary, holiday allowance, year-end bonus, vacation days, and flexible working arrangements.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in science & technology studies, sociology (of science), anthropology (of science), library science or a closely related field by the time of appointment
- Extensive experience with qualitative research methods, particularly interviewing and participant observation
- Demonstrable interest in and affinity with quantitative research methods
- Ability to conduct high quality academic research, reflected in demonstratable outputs
- A record (appropriate to career stage) of publications that demonstrates the ability to conduct research which is internationally recognised as contributing to your field
- Affinity with developments around Open Science and Recognition & Rewards initiatives in (Dutch) academia
- Excellent proficiency in English, both verbally and written
