Postdoc in Radar-Based Quantitative Precipitation Estimation within project EuRadCA

Job Summary
Postdoctoral researcher position focused on radar-based quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) within the EuRadCA project. Responsibilities include developing a scalable radar processing pipeline for continental-scale radar-gauge data, implementing automatic QC, designing radar-gauge merging techniques, contributing to probabilistic QPE products and uncertainty quantification, evaluating rainfall extremes, and coordinating with partner institutions (KNMI, DWD, KIT, University of Stuttgart) to publish results at European scale. Requirements include a PhD in hydrology, meteorology, environmental engineering or related fields, strong radar/remotely-sensed precipitation experience, solid programming skills (Python/R/C), experience with large datasets, and English communication. Desirable: ML/DL knowledge, HPC experience, reproducible research practices. The position is at TU Delft’s Faculty of Civil Engineering & Geosciences, with a contract duration of 3 years and a 36-40 hour work week; relocation support through the Coming to Delft Service is available for international applicants.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in hydrology, meteorology, environmental engineering, geosciences or a related field
- Strong experience in weather radar, remote sensing of precipitation or spatial data analysis (e.g., geostatistics)
- Solid programming skills (e.g., Python, R or C)
- Experience working with large datasets
- Familiarity with machine learning / deep learning is a plus
- Experience in HPC is a plus
- Experience in reproducible research practices and collaborative coding is a plus
- Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written)
