Job Summary

Design and conduct experiments investigating cellular mechanisms of white matter degeneration and myelination failure, including studies on oligodendrocyte progenitors and ferroptosis. Manage human autopsy brain data sets through quantitative stereological approaches and immunohistochemistry while overseeing junior research assistants. Perform data acquisition, analysis, and record-keeping, then present research findings at weekly lab meetings. This NIH-funded project within the Department of Pediatrics leverages a unique collection of human autopsy brains to define mechanisms of injury related to aging and cognitive decline.

Required Qualifications

  • MD and/or PhD
  • strong background in neuroscience
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Enthusiastic about their work
  • Highly motivated to succeed in a multi-disciplinary/multi-collaborator setting that provides a wealth of opportunities in one of the major universities for neuroscience research in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

  • Solid training in the neurobiology of aging at the PhD level
  • Solid experience with neuroanatomical approaches (histopathology, stereology, computer-assisted image analysis using programs such as Image J, Stereoinvestigator, Neurolucida; Matlab) and standard techniques in immunohistochemistry, molecular and cellular neurobiology
