Job Summary
Post-Doctoral Researcher to support and expand Howard University’s research portfolio in sickle cell disease, iron metabolism, and host–microbiome interactions through applied bioinformatics and molecular biology. Duties include integrated analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, and microbiome data; development of polygenic risk scores; contributing to manuscripts, abstracts, and grant applications; training and mentoring students; and coordinating lab operations and study design in collaboration with NIH/NSF-funded projects. Core competencies include molecular biology, clinical genomics, bioinformatics toolsets, data integration, and effective communication in teaching and mentoring.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or a related biomedical field
- Background in clinical medicine
- Demonstrated experience in omics data analysis, particularly related to hematologic or immunologic diseases
- Knowledge of iron metabolism, hemoglobinopathies, or microbiome research
- Familiarity with cell culture, PCR, flow cytometry, and molecular cloning techniques
- Prior experience assisting with undergraduate teaching or lab instruction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
