Job Summary
Conduct and develop research on proteins, specifically plant and dairy proteins, within the Analytical Protein Chemistry program of Dr. Samira Feyzi. Optimize protein extraction, purification, fractionation, characterization, binding properties, modification, and application in food systems using instrumental methods. Develop methods to enhance protein functionalities and applications in food products while collaborating with undergraduate and graduate students. Manage laboratory operations and utilize chromatography, proteomics, and spectroscopy techniques.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Food Science or a closely related field
- Solid knowledge and research experience on chromatography (HPLC, UPLC, GC/MS, GC/MS-O) and proteomics
- Experience and willingness to learn Proteomics and/or flavoramics, chromatography, and spectroscopy methods, instruments, and software
- Decision making, problem solving, and method development skills on protein extraction optimization, purification, fractionation, characterization, binding properties, modification, and application in food systems
- Well-organized
- Capable of multitasking
- Experienced in working in research labs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Must have obtained a PhD prior to the hire date
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Desired Qualifications
- PhD in Food Chemistry/ Food Analysis
- Experience in proteomics and flavoromics
- Experience in protein characterization using chromatography (HPLC; LC-MS; GC-MS; GC-MS/O), spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, CD, and fluorescence), texture analyzer, rheometer
- Experience in amino acid profile analysis
- Knowledge of proteins interactions with other food macro or micro molecules
- Research and/or industry work experience in protein ingredients
- Lab management experience and skills
