Job Summary
Post-Doctoral Fellow in Gender and Development based in Nairobi, Kenya, will co-design, lead, and publish innovative strategic research on gender-inclusive and pro-poor value chains and markets within WorldFish programs (SAAF, Multifunctional Landscapes, Gender Accelerator, CASA). The role emphasizes advancing women’s empowerment, social inclusion, and gender-transformative approaches in fisheries and aquaculture, through data collection, analysis, collaboration with country teams and partners, and effective communication of findings to inform policy and scaling of lessons. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team, contribute to MEL and reporting, and help build research capacity across programs while aligning with donor requirements. Requirements include a PhD in a relevant field, strong English communication, and demonstrated experience in gender-inclusive development research; the position offers an international salary and relocation support with a two-year contract based in Nairobi. Additionally, the role entails coordinating with peers across geographies to influence private-sector inclusion and measure gender-related outcomes in project activities.
Required Qualifications
- A PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline (Gender, Development Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, International Development, Rural Development Studies, Human Geography, or related fields)
- Good understanding regarding gender, measuring women’s empowerment levels in agri-food systems, inclusive market/value chain approaches (pro-poor women’s entrepreneurship, gender integration)
- Proven experience in gender and international development research with a strong publications record
- High-level competency in quantitative or qualitative research methods and ability to design, analyze, and write up independently
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with partners
- Experience working with rural communities in Africa, Asia, or the Pacific
- Demonstrated ability to work in complex contexts with a passion for equality, equity, inclusive poverty reduction, nutrition and food security, and environmental sustainability through research for development
- Desirable skills such as leadership, mentoring, project management, and capacity-building with government and community stakeholders
- A track record of applying research outcomes to policy development
