Job Summary

Post Doctoral Research Associate in the Aikens Lab at the University of Wyoming to lead analyses on a migration ecology and climate resilience project focused on drought-induced shifts in plant phenology and landscape development affecting mule deer migration across the American West. The role involves leveraging a West-wide GPS tracking dataset (152 herds, 9,673 individuals, >44 million GPS locations) integrated with remotely sensed data, pursuing independent, synthetic research, and potentially developing additional projects from the dataset. The position is housed within the School of Computing and the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, with co-advisors and collaboration with the USGS Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, the Wyoming Migration Initiative, and other partners. Essential duties include leading research projects, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting findings at conferences, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Qualifications emphasize a PhD in relevant fields, strong skills in spatial analysis, programming (R/Python), publishing track record, cloud-based remote sensing experience, version control, and effective communication with stakeholders and multi-institution partners. The appointment is on-campus in Laramie, WY, with sponsorship for H-1B not available for this position, and a comprehensive benefits package described by UW.
