Job Summary
Post Delivery Service Engineer III responsible for executing post-delivery warranty service for Austal USA vessels. Manages offsite repair efforts and travels to destinations (estimated 75-80%) to support vessels during warranty period. Serves as primary customer contact for contractual issues, supervises subcontractors, coordinates with Project Manager, Engineering, Production, and Navy program offices, and attends Final Contract Trials. Ensures customer satisfaction, exercises discretionary authority over subcontractors and on-site personnel, and liaises with various internal departments. Must be able to obtain and hold Secret security clearance and TWIC. Requires extensive shipyard/maritime experience, ability to read ship construction drawings and technical manuals, and experience with large propulsion diesels and propulsion gas turbines. Strong communication skills and budgetary oversight are essential; travel and occasional shipboard duty may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Six (6) years shipyard experience or eight (8) years maritime experience
- Three (3) years supervisory experience, or two (2) years as a Post Delivery Service Engineer II
- Four (4)+ years knowledge of shipyard practices and shipbuilding processes
- Effective communication with senior Navy/Civilian counterparts
- Ability to read and comprehend ship construction drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
- Experience with large propulsion diesels (5,000HP+) and propulsion gas turbine engines (20,000HP+)
- Ability to manage budgets and personnel under oversight
- Public speaking and customer communications skills
- Ability to obtain/hold a Secret security clearance
- Ability to obtain/hold a TWIC clearance
- US Person status (permanent resident or citizen)
- No felony convictions relevant to role within specified periods
- Willingness to undergo drug screening and background checks
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and contract management systems
- Discretion to manage subcontractors and on-site personnel
- Ability to render warranty-related decisions and coordinate with relevant departments
- Ability to travel and work offsite per warranty requirements
