Job Summary
Porter at Russ & Daughters Brooklyn responsible for maintaining cleanliness of all areas and equipment, disposing of refuse and recycling as directed, setting up and maintaining dishwashing stations, assisting in receiving and stocking supplies, and ensuring sanitation standards and DOH compliance. Maintains cleanliness of work areas, bathrooms, and shared spaces; completes cleaning logs; operates dish machines and related equipment; supports timely stocking of products and materials; collaborates with coworkers and management to keep space clean, organized, and ready for the next shift. Requires ability to work in a high-paced kitchen environment, lift up to 50 pounds, and work weekend/holiday/extended hours. Education preferred includes high school or vocational coursework in kitchen basics; prior related experience is preferred. Must communicate with coworkers and kitchen leadership and follow safety and health regulations.
Required Qualifications
- High school or vocational school coursework in kitchen basics such as food safety
- Basic understanding of or the ability to learn basic sanitation and regulations for workplace safety to maintain a spotless workspace
- Basic understanding of or the ability to learn food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures using standard recipes
- Basic understanding of or the ability to learn how to use/operate, maintain, and clean culinary equipment including knives, scales, mixers, ovens, stoves
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Must be able to work weekend, holiday, and periodic extended hours as business needs require
