Job Summary
Evaluate and coordinate shipyard repairs, oversee USCG/ABS inspection evaluations for re-certification, and conduct USCG inspections for the SIP Program. Resolve barge equipment problems, survey major planned and unplanned repairs, and prepare data sheets, SIP papers, and work orders. Monitor contractor work, perform technical visits, and handle special duty assignments while communicating daily with vessel crews, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Perform day-to-day maintenance on barges as assigned and exercise sound judgment in dockside problem-solving. Requires 2+ years of barge or tankering experience, refrigeration system knowledge, and physical ability to climb vertical ladders and operate field tools. Typical hours are 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday with on-call rotation and some out-of-town travel.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of Refrigeration systems
- Expert knowledge of barge repair, remedial and scheduled shipyard
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Ability to climb aboard and move around vessels
- Ability to climb 90-degree vertical ladders
- Ability to bend, crawl and maneuver around tight spaces
- Ability to use and operate field truck
- Ability to use and operate field tools
- Ability to use and operate SCBA
- Ability to use and operate ultrasonic tester
- Ability to use and operate safety equipment
- Ability to use and operate 10-key
- Valid driver's license
- Good driving record
- Knowledge and use of computer software
- Highschool Diploma or GED
- 2+ years in the barge or tankering industry
