Job Summary
Port Engineer at Ingram Marine Group responsible for maintaining vessels to USCG standards and Ingram’s internal requirements. Responsibilities include coordinating vessel maintenance, repairs, and downtime with engineering managers and vendors, assisting the Chief Engineer, attending staff and overhaul meetings, managing vessel maintenance records in HELM, communicating IBCO standards to vendors, training junior engineers, controlling maintenance costs, and performing special technical assignments. Requires collaboration with vessel crews, operations, safety, and vendors; in-person work in Reserve, LA with travel to other facilities; physically demanding environments and on-call schedule. Emphasizes safety, problem-solving, and hands-on maintenance across mechanical and electrical systems.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree, technical school, or diesel college education preferred
- 2-3 years of related experience
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Proven leadership skills
- Working knowledge of engines, gears, generators, hydraulics, basic electrical
- Intermediate computer skills and experience, Microsoft Office programs
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must have knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment
- Must have the ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
- Must have creative problem-solving skills
- Must have the ability to trouble shoot and resolve problems remotely
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with vessel crew, operations, safety, vendors, and USCG
- Must be able to transit all work environments, travel to other facilities, and be on-call 24/7
