Job Summary
Obtain patient medical history regarding sleep habits, disorders, and medications. Perform overnight sleep studies by attaching sensors to monitor physiological indicators including brain activity, eye movements, heart rate, muscle activity, breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and body movements. Prepare patients by explaining procedures, attaching sensors, and creating a comfortable environment to reduce anxiety. Use advanced equipment to collect data identifying disruptions like apnea or periodic limb movements. Score sleep stages including REM and NREM using specialized software. Identify irregularities such as obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, restless legs syndrome, or narcolepsy for specialist review. May administer CPAP or BiPAP to determine effective pressure settings. Work nights from 6:30pm to 7:00am on a per diem basis at St Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Certified Polysomnographic Technologist
- Respiratory Therapist
- Current BCLS (AHA) Certificate
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited polysomnography program
- Graduate of a respiratory therapy program
- Eligible for registry through the BRPT
- Minimum of 1 year technical experience working in a sleep lab/center
- Experience scoring sleep studies
