Job Summary

Lead Polymer Scientist for W93/Mk7 realization at LANL; oversee polymer component development, coordinate with LANL and production agencies, manage requirements/interfaces, supervise team, and deliver producible, high-quality polymer components while interfacing with DoD/DoE customers and external labs. Travel domestically quarterly for collaboration with Sandia, KCNSC, and other sites; requires US citizenship and DOE Q clearance; onsite 4-5 days/week; BS in STEM with 4+ years experience; emphasis on polymer science, materials, and weapon-system context.

Required Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of experience in technical R&D or related field
  • Significant knowledge and experience in developing and implementing technical research and development projects including formulation and testing of hypotheses
  • Experience with nuclear weapon system design and engineering, particularly US Navy systems
  • Experience with nuclear weapon development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, or surveillance
  • Knowledge of chemical sciences and material interactions, polymer aging and compatibility
  • Firm knowledge of GD&T and ability to read/interpret engineering drawings and interfaces
  • Understanding of requirements engineering, creating, validating and verifying requirements
  • Familiarity with DPBPS (Defense Programs Business Process System)
  • Experience with product realization from conceptual designs through to qualified production
  • Ability to work onsite at LANL during regular business hours 4-5 days per week
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
  • Active Real ID driver's license for badging/onboarding
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 4 years of related experience (acceptable in lieu of degree with relevant research experience)
  • Travel: open to travelling to other laboratories quarterly as needed
  • Background/pre-employment drug screening for drug-free workplace
