Job Summary

Plan and conduct Polish group language classes in small settings, both onsite and remotely, while maintaining an online classroom environment through the NFATC Learning Management System. Assess students' progress, provide feedback, and adapt teaching techniques to individual needs using established materials. Collaborate with the LTS and other instructors on training and testing matters, and participate in non-classroom activities in the Washington DC area with pre-approval. This role requires a native or near-native speaker of Polish with a cultural background of Poland, a BA/BS or higher, and at least three years of experience teaching Polish to adult learners. The position is full-time, onsite at the NFATC in Arlington, VA, ending 8/15/2026, with a competitive compensation package including health benefits, 401k, and tuition reimbursement.

Required Qualifications

  • Educated speaker of Polish (preferably Level S-4 or higher on ILR scale)
  • Cultural background of Poland and the region by being raised or educated in Poland or by living in an enclave or heritage community in another country
  • BA/BS, MA/MS or Ph.D. or foreign equivalent degree(s) in any field
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience teaching Polish to adult learners (2 or more students)
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Polish with proficiency-based or task-based curricula
  • A minimum of one (1) year administering Polish proficiency-based assessments (serving as an NFATC tester or rater, administering DLPT or OPI exams, administering task-based quizzes or weekly assessments)
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills: e.g email, Microsoft Office Suite, online meeting software (Zoom, Skype, MS Teams, WebEx)
  • Experience with hybrid teaching
  • The applicant must be local to the DMV area or willing to relocate

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing foreign language instructional material and/or curricula
  • Experience teaching with the communicative approach to language teaching and incorporating a range of educational technologies in teaching
  • Experience delivering training targeted to the needs of the diplomatic community
