Job Summary
Policy Advisor, Upstream develops and advocates API positions on offshore oil and gas policy, engaging with federal regulators and Congress, coordinating with API staff and industry allies to shape regulatory strategies, and representing API and industry before policymakers. The role emphasizes policy development on offshore access, operational safety, and environmental protection, collaboration with committees, and management of budgets, projects, and vendors. Core activities include regulatory analysis, stakeholder engagement, committee facilitation, and cross-functional coordination to advance API policy positions; requires strong communication skills and the ability to interact with senior executives and government agencies.
Required Qualifications
- 5 - 7 years of experience in policy/regulatory roles related to offshore oil and gas operations
- Demonstrated understanding of the offshore oil and natural gas industry and regulatory landscape
- Experience in public policy advocacy, regulatory affairs, or government is preferred
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with senior executives and stakeholders
- Strong written/verbal communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to develop and execute policy agendas
